Bishop Brennan Visits Fontbonne!

On Tuesday, April 21st, Brooklyn’s very own Bishop Robert J. Brennan prayed the Holy Rosary with members of Fontbonne’s Magnify Club. His visit served as part of a larger outreach mission to connect with Catholic high schools across the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens.

In the Chapel, students joined Rev. Brennan in a videotaped recitation of the Glorious Mysteries. This taping process, although perhaps unordinary for small prayer groups, was surely not new to him; rather, the video filmed at Fontbonne—which is expected to be published in the coming weeks—will soon join the ranks of dozens of other videotaped Rosary prayers on the NET (New Evangelization Television) Catholic TV Network.

As a digital resource that will soon be accessible on Youtube and the NET TV website, our video will serve as an agent of faith both within and beyond the five boroughs. Rev. Brennan even said it himself—these videos serve as a religious pipeline for many, especially those who are hospitalized or homebound and, thus, cannot make it to Mass on Sunday.

Ms. DeLuca, the moderator of Magnify who served as the primary coordinator of this event, can also attest to the importance of these videos. On her own time, she “pray[s] with Bishop Brennan,” playing these videos in accompaniment with her own recitation of the Holy Rosary.

Really, Ms. DeLuca’s experience with this digital prayer format, along with her goal to deepen Magnify’s service-oriented mission, drove this initiative into effect. As the President of the Magnify Club myself, I can confidently say that community service, rooted uniquely in a devotion to Christ-like love, is an integral part of our mission at Fontbonne.

And in that same breath, I can say without a doubt that our experience with Bishop Brennan brought that spirit of Christ-like love alive.
