This past month, there has been flooding and landslides in Northern Tanzania - particularly the region of Manyara. The disaster has damaged and destroyed at the very least 1150 houses and 750 acres of farmland. An estimated 5600 people are estimated to have been affected by these events. By December 5, 63 people had died and 116 were injured.
The natural disaster has left cars stuck in mud, debris on roads from water currents, and much more. Unfortunately, Tanzania has been affected by countless other weather-related disasters, killing a total of 15,700 people. Defense forces and rescue teams have been searching for any survivors and bodies of loved ones despite the damage to roads and bridges.
The president of Tanzania, Samia Sululu Hasan, was in Dubai for a climate conference when the tragedies occurred, and has returned early to the country. Tanzania’s prime minister, Kassim Majaliwa visited the affected Manyara region in order to meet officials and victims, while also evaluating the situation.
The people of Tanzania are in the hearts of many around the world as efforts to help the victims continue.
