Hailing all the way from Mullingar, Ireland, singer-songwriter Niall Horan sparked the annual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day at the White House. Alongside President Biden, Horan joined millions of Irish Americans on a day to recognize and celebrate their heritage.
Featuring his chart-topping song, “This Town,” Horan’s performance gave insight into the talent that the Emerald Isle produces. Furthermore, Horan played his new single, “Heaven,” which will be the first release on his upcoming album, The Show.
With President Biden being an Irish-American himself, he noted how important the Irish have been to himself and all of America. Following John F. Kennedy, Biden is only the second Irish Catholic to hold office.
“...the best drop of blood in you is Irish..,” stated the President.
The hues of kelly green were eminent across the White House, with shamrocks in the pocket squares of all attending. Most notably, Horan arrived with the Irish Prime Minister and an array of Irish representatives.
The Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, joined his fellow countryman in the East Wing. Decked out with a green tie and a celebratory green suit, Varadkar spoke kindly of US-Irish relations and future ideas following Horan’s performance.
With both countries acknowledging the long history between them, celebrations following the ceremony held much meaning for both. Horan and others were invited to a luncheon directly with the President, where traditional Irish folk bands performed.
On a day to celebrate Saint Patrick and a country with past troubles, leaders and even singers took part in recognizing the Irish and their large contributions to the world.
Erin Go Bragh!
