The midterm elections that were held on November 8th were nerve-racking for some people. The midterms are elections held near the middle of the president's four-year term in office, and we have midterm elections to elect people to Congress along with state and local representatives.
The Republican party won the House by a close margin, while Democrats will continue to control the Senate.
The Democrat running for reelection to represent New York in the Senate was majority leader Charles Schumer who got 3,201,923 votes (56%). The Republican was Joe Pinon, receiving 2,439,179 votes (43%). Charles Schumer won the election and will likely continue to lead the Democratic caucus in the Senate.
The race for New York governor included Democrat Kathy Hochul, who is our first female governor in NY, receiving 3,022,872 votes (53%). The Republican gubernatorial candidate was Lee Zeldin who earned 2,696,377 votes (47%). Kathy Hochul won the race for governor of New York, making her the first woman that has been elected New York's governor (she was already the governor of NY for some time, but only because she replaced former governor Cuomo).
