Above is a list compiled by NBC Boston of lives lost in various school shootings over the years. Please consider that though this is not a short list, it does not even begin to represent the number of lives that have been lost to gun violence incidents in schools.

Please consider how much longer this list would be if I were to include all of these lives that were lost. Please consider how much longer this list would be if I were to include all of the lives of the victims' families that have been forever altered. Please consider all victims of these heinous acts, and remember them, and their families.

Elias Wolford, 5, and Roman Mendez, 6 attend Feather River Adventist School, a Seventh-day Adventist school located in Butte County of Oroville California that teaches grades kindergarten through 7th grade. The school prides itself on its very small and tight-knit family environment, with only about 30 students in the school, and its strong core values, such as the quality of academic, physical, and religious enrichment that it provides.

Feather River Adventist School is a very quaint, peaceful environment, but as of Wednesday, December 4, 2024, any mention of the school evokes grief and anger. The name Feather River Adventist School no longer brings to mind the God-centered and discipline-oriented philosophy the school upholds with such content.

The main talk of what kind of books are in the library or what the most recent plant in the greenhouse the kids are studying is because when the name Feather River Adventist School is entered into any search engine on any platform, a tragedy that left so many emotionally wounded comes up instead. Everyone is instantly reminded of the devastation caused by the attacker.

The parents, friends, and entire community surrounding Feather River Adventist School are subject to lingering feelings of sadness, anger, and regret, wondering what precautions could have been taken to prevent this. Feather River Adventist School is one example of many communities that have been torn apart by these horrific acts of violence.

School shootings are plaguing our country. 2025 has only just begun, and yet, on January 22, in Nashville Tennessee, a high school student opened fire in the cafeteria, killing one of his peers and injuring two more before ending his own life.

According to CNN US, school shootings have seen a large and steady increase in the years since 2022. These statistics are frightening and overwhelming. Studies by The National Institute of Health, The Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, The George Washington University, and so many more, all show the detrimental impacts school shootings have on victims, families, and communities as a whole.

We must continue to do our part in honoring the victims of these tragedies.
