Tucker Carlson was a host on Fox News before his sudden firing this past April. Tucker began his career on Fox appearing on several shows as a contributor, and in 2016 became the host of Tucker Carlson Tonight. Carlson’s show became the highest-rated cable news program in prime time. Mr. Carlson had many controversies over the past years, which could have contributed to his sudden firing.
In 2011 Tucker Carlson said football player Michael Vick should be “executed” for dog mistreatment. In 2016, Mr Carlson, after interviewing Teen Vogue contributor Lauren Duca, suggested Ms. Duca should, “Stick to thigh high boots.”
In 2018, Tucker Carlson suggested immigrants would make the country “poorer and dirtier.” One of the most recent controversies to occur, and maybe the most damaging one, was on March 26, 2021, when Dominion sued Fox News for $1.6B over election coverage, singling out Tucker Carlson.
In 2023 some of Carlson’s texts leaked portraying his dislike for President Trump as well as downplaying the January 6 capitol attack. Some texts were racial in nature. One text specifically states, “Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. It’s not how white men fight.” This text was offensive and led people to look more into Carlson and ask themselves if he’s done all these horrible things out on air, in the open, is he really a good person?
Fox News began to get backlash because of how long they ignored Carlson’s behavior. Bulmakr’s Tim Miller tweeted, “Gotta say all the Tucker leaks seem like post-hoc face saving nonsense that make the ... suits at Fox look worse than him.”
It was on April 24, 2023 that Tucker Carlson was fired from Fox News. Reports have stated Mr. Carlson plans on a new version of his show taking place on Twitter.
