As of April 15th the official brackets were set on what teams would be playing in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Eastern Conference will feature the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, and of course the New York Rangers.
From the Western Conference, we got the Las Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Minnestoa Wild, Seattle Kraken, Winnipeg Jets, as well as the winners of the 2022 Stanley Cup, the Colorado Avalanche.
The playoffs kicked off Monday, April 17th when the Hurricanes played the Islanders. Each playoff round consists of two teams playing each other. In order to advance to the next round one team must win four games vs. their opponent in the best of seven series. These sixteen teams are now battling it out on the ice so they can make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Now, as we are in the middle of the first round of the playoffs, all fans are able to see how each team is playing out on the ice, and if they have the potential to win the cup. So far in the Eastern Conference the Rangers, the Hurricanes, the Bruins, and the Maple Leafs, have taken a lead against their opponents winning more games in the first half of round one.
As for the Western Conference the Golden Knights, the Kings, the Wild, and the Avalanche have taken the lead. Round one has brought many surprises, so the winners who will advance at this time are unknown.
Fans are rooting for their teams making sure that they are the ones to take home the cup. Sami Mitchell, a sophomore at Fontbonne Hall and fellow Rangers fan says, “Each team is playing to their fullest potential and you can tell how bad they want to win. I think the final round will include the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers.”
Many predictions are being made as to who will win the 2023 Stanley Cup. Each team this year has come out stronger than last year to fight for the cup and take it home.
