With the holidays coming up, relatives are always asking what I would like for Christmas, but they also often ask what I think someone else would want. I know that money and gift cards are safe options, however it is nice to receive something more personal.
I was having a conversation with my friend the other day and she said, “Practical gifts can be just as fun as personal gifts.” A few years ago, I had gotten her a Bath and Body works set full of products that were her favorite scent. It was something I knew she would love, as well as use. Another time, I bought my friend a stack of cards that were double the size of regular cards since I knew he liked to perform magic tricks.
For more distant friends that I still get gifts for, I try to buy something that will let them know I thought of them while shopping. In the past, I’ve bought one of them their favorite candies and put them in a cute mug. This year, I bought lip glosses and paired them with a small stuffed animal. I think they will appreciate it.
When it comes to teachers, I normally get them an ornament. Macy’s has some of my favorites, and they always have a massive sale where you can buy a large number of them for a reasonable price.
For my parents and siblings, I focus on something I know they like but have not purchased yet. For example, this year I bought my sister a pair of shoes that she has had her eye on for a very long time, but has not come around to buy herself.
In previous years, I bought her things from fandoms and movies she loves, such as Harry Potter or Disney. I bought my brother hats or jerseys that I knew he did not have yet. Sometimes it takes advanced planning just so you can be sure they will like the item you are thinking of.
I hope this made your holiday a little easier. Buying gifts can be very tedious and overwhelming, but there are always websites like Amazon that make holiday shopping fast and efficient. However I must admit, sometimes the safest bet is a good gift card!
