As the end of baseball season loomed in the October air, there was a lot of pressure carried on the back of one of the Yankees' greatest, Aaron Judge. Not only were the Yankees playing in the playoffs, but Aaron Judge was breaking personal records as the entire country watched with patience and admiration. Judge has been an asset to the New York Yankees not only as a great player, breaking homerun records, but he is also admired by teammates and fans for his character and sportsmanship. Many have compared him to Derek Jeter, and he has earned that same kind of respect.
Unfortunately, Judge’s contract with the New York Yankees was up once the season was over, and Judge became a free agent. Fans all around the country anticipated the signing of Aaron Judge’s new contract and many hoped it was with their team.
Rumors that Judge would sign with the New York Mets were swirling around since the team was in need of a power hitter, and who better than Aaron Judge, a free agent, to fill that position in their line-up? The rumors felt extremely real and frightened Yankee fans to their core. This even led to an investigation because it is believed that the Mets ownership was involved in improper communication with Yankees ownership about the player. If that wasn’t bad enough, Yankee fans had to contemplate other rumors such as Judge going to the San Francisco Dodgers, Judge’s childhood favorite team.
Finally, on December 7, 2022, after much anticipation from baseball fans across the country, weeks of rumors, and assumptions, Yankee fans finally took a sigh of relief. Judge agreed to keep wearing pinstripes and signed a 9-year, $360 million contract with the New York Yankees! This is exciting news for fans and proves Judge is a man of his word, as he had stated in the past that he hoped to “be a Yankee for life”!
