On September 1, 2022, Amazon’s streaming service released The Lord of the Rings prequel: The Rings of Power.
After the show’s announcement in January 2020, fans have highly anticipated the eight episode season. Taking place thousands of years prior to the franchise’s initial prequel installment The Hobbit, the series plans to provide fans with the events leading up to the dark fantasy.
The Lord of the Rings is a familiar title to fans and critics alike. It has been a series that has dominated the entertainment industry for some time now. Many assumed that after the three film adaptations for both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the fantasy juggernaut would have retired its time on the screen. The Rings of Power, however, has proved the public wrong.
With more lore from author J.R.R Tolkien at creative disposal, The Rings of Power draws from source material not included in any of the six films. Diehard fans have long awaited the story of just how these rings were made and all of the events leading up to the beloved series. Fans will now have a chance to live out these dreams thanks to Amazon Prime and executive producer Patrick McKay.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s series has certainly made its mark on the entertainment industry and seems to continue this sweep with the 2022 release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. While the season may be over, fans can certainly get excited for more to come. Amazon Prime has already renewed the series for a second season.
Shortly after the final episode aired on October 14, the series announced its five season plan for the new prequel. Starting with its season two renewal, the series is set to return to the streaming platform sooner rather than later. With the series already beginning production, some expect the sophomore season to be ready for viewership as early as 2023. With high hopes and great reviews, longtime fans can't wait to see this series continue to unfold on the small screen.
