Avatar: The Way of Water Is Too Dang Long

The 2009 Avatar film had plenty of success and was nominated for nine Academy Awards, but does the sequel compare?

Avatar: The Way of Water is a blockbuster sci-fi/action movie. Known for its amazing visual effects and cinematography, the original Avatar movie made 2.922 billion dollars at the box office and stirred up revenue.

The new Avatar movie is a continuation of the 2009 film and has been long awaited. It’s mainly about the main characters, played by Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington, forming a family and trying to stay together and keep their children safe when an ancient threat reemerges and they must fight a war against the humans.

When entering the movie theater, one is excited and ready to watch something they think they’ll love. That’s exactly how I felt walking in to go see this movie. I was hoping to say I fully enjoyed it but I cannot. Although this movie had a good plot, it was executed poorly and dragged along.

The sequel’s duration was a whopping 3 hours and 12 minutes. Not many have the attention span to sit in a theater for 3+ hours straight.

In spite of the previous statements, this movie was one that I would recommend to people who can withstand the length. Overall, it had some heart-felt and tear-jerking moments where we would feel empathy for the characters. Avatar fans will be glad to hear there are more movies coming out in the future.
