For many people, Valentine’s Day is a holiday in which they feel alone and resentful that they have no one to spend it with. It is referred to as a “fake holiday made up by Greeting Card companies.” I think this is a far too negative view of the day. Yes, “Valentine” is normally associated with a romantic holiday meant to be spent with that “special someone,” but there are a lot of special people in our lives. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good romantic comedy with a happy couple, but looking for a valentine every year at a young age can make your older self more anxious about the holiday.
Personally, I would much rather spend the day with friends since they are special people to me, too. It may seem like I am a “lonely, love obsessed teenager without a Valentine,” but I truly find comfort in spending the day with people I know and have fun with.
Galentine's parties are getting increasingly more popular, which is a fun event that a group of friends have who spend the romantic holiday together rather than with legitimate Valentines. There are so many opportunities to spend time with “the gals,” but using Valentine’s Day as a justied excuse to eat cute heart shaped food, and wear pink or red feels verifying.
There are also a lot of activities you could do together for the day. If you want to match the holiday by all wearing pink and red, it is a great opportunity to. You could also watch a romcom, or romantic comedy, which is my personal favorite as a romance junkie. It is a day to try every chocolate, cookie, or ice cream flavor, as well.
I think Galentine's Day is a great revamp of the well known holiday. Instead of being a “damsel in distress” waiting to be someone's Valentine, be your friends’ Galentine instead.
