It’s Been a Long Time Coming - A Peek into Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

Victoria Verrecchio '24

Taylor Swift, or should I say, the music industry herself, is currently on tour and doing concerts all across the country. Since the tour she went on in 2017-The Reputation Stadium Tour- she has released 4 brand new albums. Last year, she announced that she was going on another stadium tour in 2023 called The Eras Tour. Swift has 10 albums in total, and every album represents a new era in her music career.

Swifties have spent the past couple months fighting with Ticketmaster, predicting what songs will be on her set list, what outfits she will wear, etc. On Friday, March 31, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona at the State Farm Stadium, Swift kicked off the very first night of her extremely anticipated tour.

The opening, just like everything else, was a complete mystery. Was she opening up with her first album, Taylor Swift? Or her most recent album, Midnights?

Shocking everybody in the stadium and those watching live streams all over the world, she opened up with a Lover mashup. Lover was the album that was supposed to be touring after Reputation, but Covid-19 got in the way. The first two songs she sang were “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince,” and “Cruel Summer.”

She proceeded to sing 4 more songs from Lover, then moved onto Fearless. Singing the album title, “Fearless,” first, then singing two of her hits, “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story.” Swift promptly moved onto Evermore, and sang 5 songs, including “Marjorie,” which is a tribute to her grandmother.

Then the tone completely changed, and Reputation was the next era to be highlighted. After 4 songs from Reputation, Speak Now was only 1 song, with that being a fan favorite-including one of my personal favorites- “Enchanted.”

Coming up next was Red, in which she sang her hits, including Swifties’ most prized possession: “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” Next came Folklore, with that being 7 full songs, including the love triangle. After came my personal favorite album, 1989, where she sang 5 songs from that era.

Swift loves to keep an element of surprise, so every show, she sings 2 surprise songs. For opening night, she sang “Tim McGraw” from her debut album, Taylor Swift, which was the only song she sang from that album. Then, she also sang “Mirrorball,” making 8 songs from Folklore in 1 night.

To close out the night, she ended with her most recent era, Midnights, and sang 7 songs from that album. Ending with “Karma,” keeping the tradition of what she does best alive, which is throwing shade, considering she ended her Reputation Stadium Tour with “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.”

Taylor Swift does nothing but one-up herself every time she releases something new, and us Swifties most definitely recognize that. The support for this tour is tremendous already, and we have months to go.

Myself and thousands of others cannot wait for the shows, surprise songs, outfits, and so much more. Swift is truly a mastermind and I am so excited to see what she has in store for us Swifties. (Especially those going to MetLife Stadium on May 26!)
