Ja Morant fell back into trouble with the NBA when he was shown on Instagram Live with a gun in his hand, again. He was already suspended once and told everyone he was going to work on himself, better his actions, and mature from this experience. Obviously, he did not do this as he repeated this poor action which has now threatened his career forever.
He is a young and popular player in the league, and could have the possibility to make millions of dollars during his career. The NBA did not tolerate Morant glorifying his gun on Instagram Live the first time, and now the second time they have become less lenient and suspended him from the Memphis Grizzlies until further notice.
This suspension is not only affecting Morant himself, but affecting the whole league, as well as his 12 million dollar deal with Nike. This was an embarrassment to the NBA and has caused his Nike deal to be at risk.
Morant is now being mocked and treated badly by many people who disagree with his actions.
Maria DiMaggio - sophomore at Fontbonne Hall Academy and basketball fan - has strong opinions on his actions, “I was shocked the first time he did this, and I cannot believe he would do it again. He isn’t being a good role model to younger basketball players wanting to get into the league, and putting a bad name to the NBA in general.”
Yes, Morant is only 23. However his actions cannot be justified after flashing his gun on social media twice. The NBA does not want to be associated with guns, and are now suffering the repercussions of Morant’s immaturity.
People in the leauge are raising concerns about his character and questioning if he is truly serious about being in the NBA long term. The league has yet to come up with a punishment for Morant, but they are not amused or supportive of his actions.
