Jamie Lee Curtis’ Last Halloween

Salome Pizon '23

Jamie Lee Curtis and her 44 year strife with Michael Myers is officially coming to an end. As she was reading the script for the first time, Curtis said, “I was very happy that Laurie Strode has been given some trauma therapy, grief counseling; that we honor the fact that in fact, people in these kinds of terrible situations do, now, get people coming and helping. Back in 1978, Laurie Strode got nothing. She went to school two days later. Now at least Laurie Strode is being given a little bit of support.”

Curtis says that although the last film doesn’t really have a happy ending, it's a little optimistic.

She goes on to say “People said, ‘She’s happy’ and I said, ‘No she’s not.’ Laurie Strode will never be happy again — her daughter was murdered, friends of hers were murdered, many people in the town,” Curtis explained. “But she can live next to it, she can walk next to it, and I think that’s really the best you can ask for in that level of grief and upset.”

As the crew was wrapping up, they noted that they kept some famous mementos from the set. Curtis even went on to joke saying she’s not a big thief, but the prop master gave her a hospital bracelet that says “Laurie Strode, Haddonfield Memorial Hospital” that’s covered in blood.

Curtis goes on to explain that even though it’s the end of “Laurie Strode,” she holds a special place in her heart forever. “I think that message is crucial in a world where it feels daunting and feels like we will give up,” Curtis intensifies. “I love that my legacy in the movies is that I played a girl who fought and never gave up.”
