Lindsay Lohan’s Hollywood Comeback: Why We’re Happy To See It

Victoria Spagnuolo '25

Lindsay Lohan’s Hollywood comeback is officially afoot — and it’s going even better than expected. In The Ankler, Sean McNulty discussed how Lohan’s Falling for Christmas produced the fourth-biggest opening weekend for a Netflix original since May, accumulating over 31.2 million views throughout its first four days of streaming. According to Netflix’s own top 10, it’s running right behind Enola Holmes 2, with more than 48 million hours viewed in its first week.

The film follows a hotel heiress, Sierra (Lindsay Lohan, obviously) who develops amnesia after a skiing accident. When a kind lodge owner, Jake (Chord Overstreet), finds her after the accident, he takes her in, and cares for her over the holidays at his lodge. Throughout her recovery, Sierra and Jake fall in love, and Sierra learns the true meaning of family, love, and career.

So, was Falling for Christmas good? While Lohan’s new film wasn’t as career-altering or iconic as her past films — that wasn’t the point. Despite everything she's been through, Lohan has returned to her acting career purely out of joy and is on a path of pursuing projects she wants to do — leading her to the comeback she’s deserved for over a decade.

Lohan spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her experience of getting back into her notorious acting career and the “joy” it brought her.

“Doing films, playing a character, it brings me so much joy to be able to share a story with people. To take people on that journey with me is such a blessing.”

Seeing Lohan do something she truly loves after knowing the life she previously had in the spotlight is, quite frankly, inspirational.

Lohan’s performance in the film is lively and enjoyable, reminiscent of her iconic Mean Girls charm. After watching her performance, I’d happily watch her in something again — maybe not a Hallmark-type film so to say, but simply another project. Despite some visible flaws like an unstable plot, Lohan’s performance outweighed them. Seeing her on screen again in a simple, holiday film warmed my heart.

It truly is comforting to see Lohan in a healthy state on the screen. Because we know everything she’s gone through for almost two decades, the entirety of the film conjures up feelings of hope that Lohan is entering a new, healthy stage of her life and acting career.
