On March 10, 2023, both Lana Del Rey and Miley Cyrus will be releasing albums. Both Cyrus and Del Rey have displayed immense talent over the course of their careers. The two have had a large presence in the music industry for quite some time now. I think it's safe to say we are all excited to see what the two women bring to the table on March 10.
Lana Del Rey’s Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard, will be the artist’s ninth studio album. The album is quite pivotal for Del Rey. With the release of her previous two 2021 albums—Blue Bannisters and Chemtrails over the Country Club—many fans pointed out her stylistic changes. Her albums did not have that moody ‘50s feel to them anymore. Though the clear psychedelic rock influence and her ethereal voice remained the same, the records still had a different feel to them. Upon the December 7 release of the titular single, fans like Shannon Wasson ‘23 expect a return to her usual sound.
Wasson states, “I feel Lana’s new album is very similar to her old sound but in a good way. She shows that even through the changing times of the music industry, she keeps true to her psychedelic and ‘50s mystique.” Many fans expect a return to Lana’s statement sound, and we can’t wait for the album to drop.
For Miley Cyrus, this marks her eighth studio album following 2020’s Plastic Hearts. Cyrus’s new album titled, Endless Summer Vacation, had its lead single released on January 13. There has been a great deal of talk about this song, “Flowers.”
Olivia Mola ‘23 recounts her own positive feedback from “Flowers.” “I think that Miley has changed up her music style a lot over the years. This new album, like all the others, reflects specific times in her life and the story that came from them. I think that if ‘Flowers’ sets the tone for the rest of the album, it could be one of the best of 2023.” Contrary to Del Rey, we expect to see Miley Cyrus entering a new era. Her single came in with a vengeance, demanding to be heard—and so it was.
Lana Del Rey and Miley Cyrus are both incredible artists who have contributed so much to the music industry over the years. The two each have large enough fan bases to attract an audience for these albums. However, we hope to see them touch everyone in their new records. Personally, I cannot wait to see what these two albums have in store for us. Get ready for March 10, 2023!
