Nessa Barrett’s Album "Young Forever" Is a Touching Tribute

Nessa Barrett is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter who gained a big following on TikTok. Nessa started on TikTok in 2018 and quickly gained over 2 million followers. She was known for lip-syncing and her style. Nessa shared her struggles with mental health with her followers and became a safe person for many people.

In 2017, Nessa tried to take her own life. Thankfully, she did not succeed, and with her family’s encouragement, she got the help she needed. Nessa went on to incorporate her struggles into her music and tell her stories through her songs.

After the recent death of her best friend Cooper Noregia, Nessa came out with a new album, Young Forever in his honor. This album was released October 14, and took Nessa 14 months to write—she admits to having to deal with a lot of struggles during that time. Battling her own demons led Nessa to dedicate her album to Cooper and shared that his favorite song, ironically, was “Die First.”

The first time I heard Nessa Barrett sing, I was hooked. There’s something about her songs that tells a story I can relate to. The very first Nessa song I listened to was “i hope you’re miserable until you’re dead.” I know the words seem really harsh, but I could sense Nessa had such a release of anger and sadness that I couldn't wait to hear more from her.

Overall, I really enjoyed her new album, her melody and lyrics were written really well and her message of her struggles are relatable. My two favorite songs were “Madhouse” and “Tired of California.” I am looking forward to seeing her live when she comes to NYC.
