New York Comic Con 2022

On a crisp autumn Friday at the beginning of October, costumed civilians could be seen assembling at the Javits Center in New York. At first this might have seemed like an early Halloween party, but it was really the 2022 New York Comic Con. Lasting from October 6-9, Comic Con is an event where different fandoms and unique interests are celebrated. There are booths full of comics for collectors, plushies, collectables, and anything you can imagine from your favorite fandoms. There are also popular franchises such as anime, Marvel, Disney, and Studio Ghibli. However, the event is most well known for the costumes representing fictional characters, or cosplays. People from all over the country go to Comic Con to enter cosplay contests where you can win for the handmade outfit you have on. Many that do not participate in the contest either create their own costumes from scratch or buy them online. Regardless, everyone makes sure to look their very best, as people swarm around the most interesting cosplays to take pictures.

One of the main attractions at Comic Con are the famous actors, artists, and authors that attend. For a certain price, you can pay to see a panel of actors from your favorite show, get an autograph, or take pictures with them. Celebrities like Netflix’s Shadow and Bone cast were asked questions at a panel, Ralph Macchio from Karate Kid and Cobra Kai was present, as well as Sebastian Stan who plays the Winter Soldier in the hit Marvel movies. There are spaces in the Javits Center that have different displays, such as Artist’s Alley. You can buy work from the many artists, look around, or get something signed.

Apart from the Comic Con in New York, which usually takes place in October, there is also one in San Diego. San Diego Comic Con falls around mid July and it is the largest in the United States. Overall, Comic Con is a place to be yourself, have fun, and let your creativity show.
