President Trump's Congressional Address

On March 4th, 2025, President Donald Trump delivered an address to Congress as part of his second term, where he presented his administration’s early plans and actions. This speech holds constitutional significance, as it allows the President to inform Congress about the State of the Union and propose measures he finds necessary. The address focused on key themes, including domestic policy and foreign affairs.

Setting a record as the longest annual address in modern history, Trump strongly emphasized the economy, particularly addressing trade and tariffs. He promised to offer “relief to working families” in the face of rising inflation. Immigration also played a central role in his speech, where he mentioned undocumented immigrants and called for stricter border security measures.

However, despite the traditional nature of this annual address, Trump struggled to connect with a divided room. His Republican supporters, situated on his left, frequently stood and erupted into cheers of “USA, USA, USA,” and “Trump, Trump, Trump.” On the right side, Democratic members remained seated and stoic, holding up paddles with words saying “False” and “Musk Steals.”

During his speech, President Trump vowed to implement ambitious changes to and for the nation. With the backing of billionaire advisor Elon Musk, Trump announced his goal to “reclaim democracy from this unaccountable bureaucracy,” earning both cheers and frowns from opposite sides of the room.

It was noted that the address contained interruptions, leading House Speaker Mike Johnson to restore order to the court. Johnson subsequently expelled Texas Rep. Al Green from the chamber. “It’s important to show that there are people who will stand up,” Green said to reporters following his removal.

President Trump's address to Congress highlighted both his administration's goals and topics of conflicting viewpoints in American politics. While his speech resonated with one side of Congress, it is noteworthy to report that the other opposed his actions.

This customary Congressional address set the tone for the next 4 years, and though it seemed as if Congress was divided, we as a nation hope they all come together and make informed decisions for our country.
