For a long time, there has been a debate on whether or not students should be able to wear FHA merch that isn't included in their uniform. School uniforms have long been standard in private and public education, promoting unity and discipline amongst the students.
However, there has been growing support from teachers and students to wear FHA merchandise that is not part of their official uniform, but also lots of push for people to follow the code. Should FHA students be able to wear Fontbonne merch that isn't part of their uniform?
I have interviewed some of the school's teachers and students to gauge opinions on this topic:
Teacher #1:
“ We and the administration are coming from the standpoint that if there is a uniform code it should be respected. I understand where the students and parents are coming from in the case that they are paying so much money for these sweaters to not be worn in school."
Teacher #2
“I don't necessarily have an opinion, but I do for sure think that there is a uniform code for a reason and that students should follow it because it is there for a reason.”
Student #1
“ I believe that if one is spending their money, good money on school merch, they should at least be able to wear it. I also think that the student body is also embracing their school spirit, whether it be a sweater from a sports team or a club, we would still be representing Fontbonne.”
Student #2
“ I think that we should be able to wear it because it's not like we are representing a different brand or school we are actually still representing Fontbonne. Also, the uniform isn't necessarily the comfiest and all I want is to feel comfortable in the clothes I have to wear to school while learning.”
The resulting consensus is surprisingly split - teachers mostly feel that the uniform has to be upheld, while students want a change.
Safe to say, we probably will not be seeing further movement on wearing FHA merch in school. How do you stand on this issue?
