Spring Training

Maryann Corozzo '26

Spring training is the preseason in Major League Baseball. It consists of some practices and exhibition games. This gives new players a chance to try out, and players already on a team a chance to practice before the season starts.

Spring training is about two months. It picks up in the middle of February and ends at the end of March when the actual season begins.

There are more than 30 spring training games to get players ready. All MLB teams are assigned a league to play the games. Spring training usually takes place in Florida and Arizona because of the warm weather.

The eastern teams play in Florida and the western teams play in Arizona. Florida is called the Grapefruit League and Arizona is called the Cactus League.

Spring training games are 9 innings just like in the real season. Fans are allowed to go and watch training. There are daily workouts that take place and they are open to the public.

MLB players even practice before spring training to warm up and get prepared for the practices and games to come.
