Kayla Clayton '23

SZA just released her second album SOS on December 9, 2022. The album has twenty-three songs with four features on it.

The Grammy award-winning artist, real name Solána Imani Rowe, wrote the album during her five year break after her first album CTRL. The first track “SOS” features SZA comparing herself to others and wishing to be more than what she is in life. The instrumental is simple yet beautiful, and her vocals bring the track to a whole new level.

The singer is today most known for her song “Good Days,” which is featured on the album as the second to last track. The way that her track list for the album is set up gives the listeners more of an understanding of the story she is trying to tell. “I just want what's mine” the singer stated, referring to her album in a New York Times interview.

When asked what their favorite song on the album was, senior Katherine Soto said, “‘Kill Bill’ is my favorite because I feel as though it perfectly encapsulates the feeling you get when you see your ex with someone new.” A lot of people likewise relate to this song in particular because of the story behind it.

The album has reached number 1 on the Billboard Top 200. In total, she has sixteen songs that have reached number 1 throughout the years. She is a fourteen-time Grammy award nominee , winning one for pop duo/group performance, making her one of the most influential artists of our generation.
