Taylor Swift is no stranger to having incredible success, breaking records, and making history, but her newest record might just be her greatest yet. On February 4th, the Grammy Awards were held, honoring musicians in every genre in the business.
Taylor went into the night with 6 nominations, including Album, Record, and Song of the Year. She arrived hand in hand with Lana Del Rey (who was also up for 5 awards), with mutual producer Jack Antonoff accompanying them as well.
Leading up to the show, the Swifties had multiple theories on what she was going to do that night, the most popular one being that she would announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version). When she showed up wearing black and white Schiaparelli couture, the general consensus was that the announcement was pretty much confirmed.
But one thing about Taylor is that she loves to surprise her fans, and she always has something up her sleeve.
Early on in the evening, Taylor won Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights (making for her 13th win), and announced her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, coming out on April 19th.
By then, the internet was already breaking, and did even more so when she won Album of the Year a few hours later. Taylor Swift had already won Album of the Year 3 times before, for Fearless (which made her the youngest person to win the award until Billie Eilish), 1989, and Folklore.
Through these 3 wins, she became the only woman to win the award twice for 1989, and 3 times for Folklore. Her newest trophy broke her tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon for the most wins.
When accepting the award, Swift said, "I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack to code to a bridge I love, or when I'm shortlisting a music video, or when I'm rehearsing with my dancers or my band, or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show. For me the award is the work. All I wanna do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much, it makes me so happy."
It is no secret that Taylor is one of, if not the most popular artist right now, and that title will certainly last for years to come. It’s clear that her legacy will continue to resonate with people far into the future, inspiring generations of both artists and fans alike.
