The 2026 Academy Awards generated mixed reactions–mostly praise, but also some criticism of certain moments and celebrities. However, Conan O’ Brien’s opening segment, inspired by the film Weapons, stood out as a highlight. In this cold open, he dr

essed as the main antagonist Gladys while children chased him through different film universes, including K-Pop Demon Hunters and Sinners, creating an entertaining start to the ceremony.

Several major awards were also announced during the night. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in Sinners, while Ludwig Göransson received Best Original Score for the same film. Ryan Coogler also earned Best Original Screenplay for Sinners. Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Mia Goth, won awards in costume design, makeup and hairstyling, and production design.

Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor, while Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress. In addition, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was announced by Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour. Another standout moment came when K-Pop Demon Hunters took home Best Animated Feature, adding to the night’s celebration of both animated and blockbuster film successes.

Some criticism of the ceremony focused on fashion choices and political statements made during acceptance speeches. Overall, the night reflected both the excitement and controversy expected at the Oscars, proving why it is one of Hollywood’s most talked-about events each year.
