The Band “Wallows” New Album “Tell me that it’s over”

Linda Diaz '24

Released on March 25, 2022, Wallows’ new album, “Tell me it’s over”, came through with Atlantic Records.

Debuting in 2017, Wallows came to be an alternative rock band consisting of 3 members: Dylan Minnete, Breadon Lemasters, and Cole Preston. They debuted with the song “Pleaser”, which follows someone that is too awkward and cautious to say what is on their mind. They are worried that what they say will not be what the other person wants to hear. As a people-pleaser, they bite their tongue and hold in what they really think. The song begins with a soft voice trying to explain the situation. Slowly, the singer starts to become louder with the percussion and guitar in the background. The increasing volume represents how much they want to say what they are truly thinking, and how all those thoughts are held within the confines of their mind. Wallows have captured an intense moment that many people could relate to.

You might recognize one of these band members in the famous 13 Reasons Why show. Dylan Minnete was the star actor playing Clay Jenson. The Netflix drama was a success that brought more attention to the band. Then in 2019, with the album Nothing Happens, they hit 75 on the Billboard 200. The song “Are you bored yet” featuring Clairo, was in the top ten of alternative singles.

On March 25, 2022, Wallows released the album “Tell me that it’s over”. The overall vibe of the album is positive, and cheerfully optimistic. Usually, Wallow’s songs sound mellow and moody. However, this album acted almost in contrast in a very upbeat way. Interviewing some of the current juniors at Fontbonne Hall Academy, Samantha Soued, a Dylan Minnete enthusiast, states, “I was expecting it to sound mellow, and calm but it was different, it was more cheerful and upbeat.” Another fellow and dedicated wallower, Kasey Severino, said that the vibe she gets from the album is “like indie film vibes but it really depends of the themes of their album.” Finally, another wallower and esports champ, Sophia Ypsilantis, says, “the album was different, I expected it to be like soft-rock and mellow like their other albums that I like that are slowed-paced.”

The interview continued with a question: “What did you think of the image cover?” Samamntha Soued ‘24, states that “it was simple and cool”. Kasey Severino ‘24, answered, “its really nice and sets up a good theme for the sound of the album. I also really like how its the first album to fully show themselves so that new fans can see who they really are.” Sophia Ypsilantis commented that it was pretty.
