How did we get here… again?! New Yorkers are disappointed and heartbroken at their baseball team once again in October. New York Yankee fans have not seen their team make it to the World Series since 2009. Yet year after year, they tease their fans with astonishing plays, great wins, record breaking statistics but manage to end the season without a ring, or even an appearance.
Some people may think it is a curse, others are simply mad at their team, while other fans remain hopeful. The emotions are very different, but no matter what the feelings are, the reality is that here we are in 2022, with no ring – not even an appearance.
It is no surprise to some people that the New York Yankees continuously get so close to the championship, but then the Houston Astros pull the rug right out from underneath them. Since 2009, the Yankees have made it to the American League Champion Series (ALCS) a total of five times. The Yanks have lost to the Astros in three of them - 2017, 2019, and 2022. Of course, fans are disappointed.
This past week, the energy and nerves of Yankee fans were at an all-time high. Sadly, their fears all came true yet again. In a best of seven games ALCS series against the Houston Astros, the Yankees somehow managed to lose four games in a row. They battled hard in games one and two, losing by just one run in each game.
Then in game three, the Yankees lost 5-0 at home in Yankee Stadium. Those who were hopeful really thought that game four would at least put the Yankees on the board. Sadly, the Astros beat the Yankees 6-5, completing the sweep in New York.
No wonder fans are mad. Now the big question is - what happens next?
