Living in Texas with three children and a husband, she is currently the best-selling novelist in the United States. She typically writes New Adult and Young Adult contemporary romances but has also produced psychological thrillers.


Selling more than 20 million book's she is said to have sold more books than Dr. Seuss, and even outsold the Bible. Books like It Ends With Us, Ugly Love, and Verity have all held their spot for over 45 weeks. Her longest charting book is It Ends With Us with 76 weeks in the category of Top Paperback Trade Fiction.


Colleen Hoover originally started writing in 2011. Her first novel was Slammed, published in 2012. Although this book did not get much recognition, she kept on writing.


Her rise to fame finally took place when in 2021 users on TikTok, a video-sharing social media platform, began sharing their love for her books, primarily It Ends With Us. Continuing this rise through the charts, she went on to publish books that her loving audience ate up. One such book is It Starts With Us, which is the sequel to her top book.
