To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Fontbonne Basketball team showed love for their Seniors. Fontbonne faced off against their Brooklyn rival, St. Edmund’s Prep on Tuesday, the 14th. To start off the night, the JV team defeated St. Edmund’s 64-32, but it didn’t end there.
After an amazing victory by the JV team, our Varsity Bonnies took the court and got the
gym fired up. It was a sight to see on Shore Road, with a packed Fontbonne gym to celebrate Seniors Ella Berhardt and team captain Stefanie Morris. Before the game, each senior from the St. Edmund’s team was honored and presented with a rose. Coach Mike Sammon and Assistant Coach Bob Atanasio proceeded to present the Fontbonne Seniors with a bouquet of flowers and said a few kind words.
Two Juniors on the Varsity Basketball team were given the honor of writing a heartfelt
speech for each of the Seniors. Leeann Ryan, Junior, gave a speech about Bernhardt, describing her amazing personality and her hard work, both on and off the court. Ryan states, “Ella has made such an impact on my life, not only is she a fantastic player, but she’s also one of the greatest friends a girl could ever ask for.”
Fellow Junior Kristen Russo was also asked to say a few words about Morris. “Stef is a fantastic leader. She’s someone that I know I can always rely on and ask for advice. Since the first day I met you, Stef, you’ve shown me nothing but kindness. You are truly the most wonderful person I know,” Russo states.
After speeches, the game took off. The Bonnie’s quickly overpowered St. Edmund’s with
a 10 point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bonnie’s continued their power run and defeated St. Edmund’s Varsity with a final score of 57-31. Our Seniors finished their night with a final walk off the court. The team celebrated with a small party in the cafeteria. Congratulations to Stefanie and Ella on an amazing final season!
