One of Fontbonne’s most momentous traditions is upon us! Whether an alum or current student, Fontbonne Christmas holds a special place in each of our hearts. Fontbonne Christmas brings out the holiday cheer in each of us by bringing us together as a school community. Fontbonne Christmas has left an unforgettable legacy, passed down by Bonnies who have celebrated the Christmas season from generation to generation.
Now, many of you may be wondering what Fontbonne Christmas even is. On the day before Christmas break begins, this long-standing school tradition starts with a prayer service, followed by time in FA to celebrate the holidays with fellow Bonnies. To conclude our half-day, all grades meet in the gym and compete to see who can scream the 12 Days of Christmas the loudest. Each year has different lines, stands on chairs, loses their voices before Christmas, and ultimately has the best time. The seniors typically get to sing the line 5 Golden Rings, a proud honor that they have waited to be bestowed upon them for their final holiday celebration here at Fontbonne.
When past alumni or current students speak on the unique Fontbonne traditions offered, many bring up Sports Night or Fontbonne Halloween. But for many, Fontbonne Christmas is truly the focal point to start the season and the true return of Christmas spirit in their hearts each year. The love for our school that we collectively share is the greatest way to start our two-week long break.
Ms. McLaughlin, both teacher and alum, spoke on her experience and differing perspectives with Fontbonne Christmas: “As a student I always looked forward to Fontbonne Christmas. Exchanging gifts with friends, having breakfast in FA, and belting out 5 golden rings as a senior during the 12 days of Christmas are top memories. It was always the best day at Fontbonne. As a teacher, I look forward to seeing the excitement in my students' faces as they participate in the same activities I did, as well as seeing recent graduates. Fontbonne Christmas brings everyone together and is truly one of the best Fontbonne events!”
Personally, having experienced three past Fontbonne Christmases and this Friday being my last, I am especially grateful. I am grateful that I chose a school that loves Christmas as much as I do. I am grateful for the chance to make memories with friends that I can reminisce about. I am grateful to make the most out of every last tradition I have at Fontbonne, but especially this one.
As you walk around campus this week, I invite you to appreciate the magical Christmas spirit that Fontbonne embodies. Despite your grade, I hope you will make the most of and love Fontbonne Christmas as much as I and eighty-five years of Bonnies do.
