It’s that time of year again! A time to be thankful for what we have, spend time with family and friends, and, of course, enjoy some of the best food ever! There are so many classic Thanksgiving foods to choose from: stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and even cranberry sauce. But what's really the top Thanksgiving food that is a must-have? I decided to create a poll for the Fontbonne students to fill out in order to determine the favorite Thanksgiving food in our school community.
Here's what the poll results were:
With 53.3% of the votes, mashed potatoes came out on top! The majority of students chose mashed potatoes as the best Thanksgiving food for various reasons. Some students said that mashed potatoes are easy to eat and delicious, and others declared, “it’s the best!” In addition to this, some mentioned that mashed potatoes don’t fill you up as much, so you can enjoy all of the other dishes at your Thanksgiving dinner! ¨Mashed potatoes feel homely and comforting to me¨ shared Emma Carollo ´28 when asked why she personally chose the dish.
You're probably thinking, what about the desserts? Thanksgiving is also known for pies of course, so what is the best Thanksgiving dessert? After asking Fontbonne students with the same poll, the verdict is a tie between apple pie and brownies. Both desserts received 25% of the votes. When asked why they voted how they did, Reve Giroux ‘28 shared, “I had to pick brownies, they are the best,” and Jacqueline Carollo ‘28 shared,“Apple pie is always so good; it never gets old.”
The lowest percentages of votes went to pecan pie and green bean casserole. Even though the Fontbonne students don’t seem to favor these dishes, they remain important factors of a classic Thanksgiving meal.
Thanksgiving is different in each household, but we can say that mashed potatoes will always be a popular dish to serve at any table. During this Thanksgiving season, let's be grateful for what and who we have in our lives, and of course, enjoy delicious food. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
