Fontbonne Spirit Grows Throughout Spirit Week

Juli-Anne Sarji '24

Throughout the week of April 22, 2024, the Student Activities Council (SAC) decided to host a Spirit Week full of fun themes to dress down to. It was so interesting to see all the creative outfits students and teachers came up with to match the themes given. The school spirit at Fontbonne grew stronger through a unique week of dressdown.

Spirit Week started off strong, with Monday’s theme being Adam Sandler. Students could be found roaming the halls and in their classes dressed in baggy t-shirts and long shorts. Since the weather was a bit chilly that day, other people decided to wear sweatpants. It was cool to see who dressed up the most like Adam Sandler.

On Tuesday, the theme was Y2K, also known as the 2000s era. Therefore, students came to Fontbonne dressed in wide-legged jeans, pastel colors, sparkly jackets, tracksuits, cargo pants, and sweatsuit sets. Students even accessorized by wearing butterfly clips, jewelry, and sunglasses. It truly felt like we were back in the 2000s.

There was no theme on Wednesday, for it was Junior’s Ring Day. We attended Mass as a school in our uniforms, with the juniors wearing their white school shirts. After mass, the juniors went home to get dressed up in their Ring Day outfits.

On Thursday, we returned to our Spirit Week themes and dressed up as rhyme-without-reason pairs. Rhyme-without-reason is essentially when you come up with a word and find a word that rhymes with it, but the two words are completely unlike things. Some cool rhyme-without-reason duo outfits seen were Queen and Mr. Clean, Parrot and Carrot, and DJ and PJ. It was really funny seeing everyone dressed up in inventive attire and the creative rhyming ideas they came up with.

Julia Gabriellini ‘24, excitedly stated, "My favorite day was rhyme-without-reason because it was fun to see all the ideas everyone came up with."

To end our last day of Spirit Week, Friday’s theme was salad dressing. Each grade voted on which salad dressing they wanted to dress up as. The seniors dressed up as Caesar Salad and, therefore, were found wearing togas and laurels like the Roman figure. The juniors dressed up as House Dressing in their house clothes of pajamas or sweatpants. The sophomores dressed up as Ranch Dressing, so they were found sporting cowboy hats and jeans. Lastly, the freshmen dressed up as Thousand Islands Dressing, in which they dressed in floral and Hawaiian shirts. Overall, Spirit Week was full of fun, and I know that creativity will only grow for next year’s themes!
