This past December 20, 2023, we celebrated Kaitlyn Bernhardt’s 21st heavenly birthday. To honor her memory, Fontbonne Against Cancer created and sold bracelets to help support the non-profit charity established by her family to help find a cure— The Be Kind for Kaitlyn Foundation.
Kaitlyn Bernhardt was born on December 20, 2002. She was an older sister to two younger siblings, Robert and Ella (FHA Class of ‘23). She was deeply involved in her local parish and was known for always having the most radiant smile on her face— her kindness and generosity were infectious.
She attended Fontbonne’s former sister school, Bishop Kearney, and soon before her freshman year, she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that primarily affects children and young adults.
In a touching tribute to celebrate her 21st birthday, Fontbonne Against Cancer came together to celebrate her life and spread a message of kindness. The event, centered around crafting yellow beaded bracelets adorned with the words "Be Kind," provided a therapeutic and communal space for grieving hearts to come together.
President Laura Meoli says, “Kaitlyn was a ray of sunshine. She was the light in everybody’s life. Everyone has nothing but good things to say about her, and I want to ensure that the Fontbonne community carries on her legacy.”
