Samantha Harris, an esteemed member of The Mary Louis Academy’s Class of 2025, passed away on November 30, 2024, due to cancer. On this day, she became a well-recognized symbol of strength, peace, and everlasting courage in the lives of many.
As an honorable member of TMLA’s community, Samantha exhibited diligence and undeniable commitment in all aspects of life. Not only was she a devout student-athlete, excelling both in and out of the classroom, but this young woman was also a leader. She displayed such optimism and integrity, having been appointed a student ambassador and serving as an embodiment of all that it means to be a TMLA Hilltopper.
Ultimately, it is the fruitful, unforgettable life of Samantha Harris that we can all learn from. With the memory of her cherished passion, her luminous personality, and her unparalleled resilience, we may begin to understand that, “...the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7-8). In just 17 years, Samantha was able to lead a life of unrestrained power, all-encompassing love, and proactive self-discipline. For this reason, we, as members of the Fontbonne community, know that the grace of Christ exists all around us.
Moreover, Samantha, like no other, was a portrayal of the three core tenets of CSJ tradition: all-inclusive love, unity, and reconciliation. She explored these characteristics in her own life and, through friendship and legacy, has embedded them in the lives of so many others.
So, it is with deep regret and reverence that we commemorate the death of this powerful young woman. May we look towards her radiant spirit as a symbol of hope, or perhaps, a beacon of light in this fast-paced world. Although the ever-changing essence of our Earth will stay inconstant, we can always look to Samantha Harris’s deep-rooted power, love, and self-discipline to act as a guiding force.
