New York Basketball: Knicks and Nets on the Road to Redemption

Maryann Corrozzo '26

New York basketball has been such a key part of the NBA for decades. There are two NBA teams in New York: The Brooklyn Nets and The New York Knicks. As of 2025, New York basketball is centered around rebuilding, growing potential, and dealing with the constant pressure to win. While both teams are on different paths, they want the same thing: bringing an NBA Championship win to New York.

The New York Knicks are in a way better place compared to previous years. This is largely due to the impact of Jalen Brunson. Coach Tom Thibodeau has strengthened the team's defense and pushed them to work hard, which has led to better seasons.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart are some other key contributors. Mikal Bridges and Matt Ryan are key competitive defensive players. The Knicks have a big season ahead of them.

The Brooklyn Nets have changed so much since Durant, Irving, and Harden. After trading away these former stars, the Brooklyn Nets are focused on improving their team. Nic Claxton and Cameron Johnson are key players on the Nets. The Nets also have a long season ahead of them.

On January 21, 2025, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets played against each other. The game was very competitive, ending in a win for the Knicks, 99-95.

Both teams played very well. Jalen Brunson scored a total of 17 points last night, but Karl-Anthony Towns was the leading scorer for the Knicks with a total of 25 points. The New York teams will meet again on April 13th, 2025 at 1:00 pm.

Hopefully, either team brings New York a win this year!
