Since baseball season started in 2023, there have been multiple injuries on many different players on the NY Yankees team. Giancarlo Stanton, Frankie Montas, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino are some of the many players who have experienced injuries so far.
Stanton suffered the injury legging out a double Saturday afternoon, and after he was placed on the IL, infielder Oswald Peraza was called up in a corresponding move. Although Stanton has played five games in the outfield this season, he is primarily a DH, and the Yankees figure to rotate players through the DH spot during his absence
“New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Sunday,” said CBS Sports.
Montas pitched to a 6.38 ERA in eight starts after the trade and missed most of September with a shoulder injury. He made one relief appearance in the postseason. Then, in the offseason, Montas had more shoulder trouble and eventually required surgery. He will miss most, if not all, of the 2023 season.
“Frankie Montas is set to undergo shoulder surgery, according to ESPN. The procedure and subsequent recovery is expected to keep the Yankees' 2022 trade deadline acquisition sidelined for most of the season.”
Rodon is battling a forearm strain that he suffered in spring training, but the injury isn't expected to sideline him for an extended duration.
“Bryan Hoch reported that Rodon threw a bullpen session of about 30 pitches on Monday, which is a promising sign for his eventual return,” as reported on MLB.com.
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson is expected to miss a few more weeks after a new MRI revealed a "Grade 1-plus" hamstring strain, manager Aaron Boone announced Friday, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
Severino is dealing with a late issue that he picked up in spring training. He is heading into the eighth year of his career but has yet to pitch in the regular season thus far in 2023 due to the injury.
