Rating Red Carpet Looks at the Grammys

Juli-Anne Sarji ‘24

The 65th annual Grammys Awards took place on Sunday, February 5, 2023, in L.A. at Crypto.com Arena. The majority of the people who attended the Grammys were music artists and groups, but also to increase the watching audience, some Tiktok and Instagram influencers were invited as well.

As hundreds of celebrities arrived at the Grammys, they all had the honor of walking on the red carpet to show off their outfits and pose for pictures and interviewers. Every person who attended the Grammys had their own unique style, whether it was having feathers on their outfit, wearing a long cloak, wearing casual clothes, or even wearing symbolic jewelry.

The celebrities who attended the Grammys included Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Cardi B, Bad Bunny, Rihanna, Adele, Dwayne Johnson, MGK, Camilla Cabello, Sam Smith, Harry Styles, etc. The majority of celebrities were decked out in extravagant outfits.

Taylor Swift showed up to the Grammys in a midnight blue two-piece outfit, symbolizing her newest album, Midnights. Her earrings also had four charms signifying one of her past albums, Red. I would rate her whole outfit a 9/10.

Lizzo arrived in a big bright red-orange floor-length cloak embroidered with hundreds of silk flowers, and when she took it off, it revealed a tangerine-colored dress with a sequined corset bodice. I would rate Lizzo’s outfit a 10/10 because I really like the embroidered flowers.

The next music artist to grace the red carpet was Cardi B, whose outfit was my favorite. Cardi B’s outfit consisted of a customized royal blue cutout 3D dress with some fabric encircling her head and a long train. She wore silver earrings with her dress to bring some bling into her outfit. Her dress was created by Indian fashion designer, Gaurav Gupta. I give Cardi B’s outfit an 11/10: it was the coolest dress I’ve ever seen and I really loved the shape of it.

Harry Styles wore a patchwork jumpsuit designed by EgonLab. His outfit, as many people believed, gives off circus or clown vibes. I rate his outfit a 6.5/10.

Giana Capialbi ‘24, who watched the Grammys explained what her favorite outfits were when she emphasized, “I think my favorite outfit was Cardi B’s. I loved the color of the dress and the shape; the construction of it was insane. I also loved Doja Cat, Paris Hilton, Beyoncé, and of course Taylor Swift.”

Gabby Sayad ‘25, who has heard a lot about this year's Grammys, stated, “I loved Lizzo’s outfit. The flowers looked real and the color of the dress was beautiful.”

Some of the worst outfits at the Grammys, in my opinion, were Black Chyna’s outfit and both Sam Smith’s red carpet and performance looks. Black Chyna’s outfit was a black bodysuit completely covered in feathers and gems. It was very gothic and according to people online, it reminded them of the outfit from Black Swan. In my opinion, I felt her outfit reminded me of a big bird and it was very out of place at the Grammys. I would rate it a 3/10.

Lastly, Sam Smith’s red carpet look was a red floor-length cape, a red top hat, and a red cane. I felt he wore too much red. His performance outfit was a red leather outfit and a red hat with horns sprouting from it. I would give both his outfits a 4/10.

Overall, I would say that all the Grammys outfits this year were pretty good and I can’t wait to see what is to be worn next year.
