On March 19, the robotics company named RobotLAB came to visit the members of FontBots, Fontbonne’s robotics team. The purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate and teach the members more about robotics. They had also wanted to learn what the members of FontBots were working on. The company introduced the members to the robots they have built, such as service robots and cleaning robots.

The meeting took place while the Sisters of St. Joseph sat all together in the foyer. The members from RobotLAB introduced the service robot named Bear Robotics Servi+. These robots are used in restaurants and hotels for delivering items. The members from FontBots learned how to use this robot and serve water to the Sisters. The members of RobotLAB had mapped out where the Sisters would be sitting so the robot could seamlessly move around to deliver water.

After serving water to the sisters, RobotLAB introduced a new robot called Gausium Phantas. This robot can scrub, vacuum, mop, dust, and sweep floors. The members of FontBots were able to test the robot out by moving it around the foyer using a tablet.

They talked about how the robot knows when to stop when there are stairs or walls by mapping out the area and using light so the robot knows when to stop. They also discussed how AI can learn new skills by watching humans. An example that was given was Tesla and how they use videos to teach AI how to drive.

After testing out the two robots and learning more about them, they viewed the parts that the members of FontBots were working on. They discussed how these parts can be found on other robots to do different tasks such as picking things up. Afterwards, they gave a presentation about computers throughout the years and the drastic increase of the speed of computers.

Meeting with RobotLAB was a great experience to learn more about robotics. This meeting taught about how robots are able to identify where to move and how to control them. It was a great way for the members of FontBots to learn about robotics and engineering.
