On Thurs. Dec. 14, the Drama Club held auditions for the 2023 spring production Mean Girls.
Ms. Frasca and Susan Huizinga held the auditions, and according to them, the auditions went very well.
People who wanted to audition for the play had to record themselves with their talent for 30 seconds. This allowed Ms. Frasca and Susan Huizinga to grasp a good understanding of the performer and what they’re capable of for the play.
Fortunately, I got a chance to speak with two girls who are auditioning for the play this year and got to hear some thoughts about last year’s play Matilda. I interviewed Hailey Johnson ’25 and Victoria Fasone ’26 who will be taking part in the play this year.
Hailey Johnson ’25 is auditioning for all the female leads in the musical. Hailey is very excited for Mean Girls. “I was kinda excited about it... I feel like it's a good play to choose… I felt that this was the best option to choose from because it was either this or Anastasia.”
Hailey also spoke about the positive experience she had last year. “In the end, it was worth it because we all became one big family.” She stresses the fact that all of those late-night practices, and countless hours of memorizing lines would all be worth it in the end.
Victoria Fasone ’26 is auditioning for Karen and Gretchen. She has been acting for four years and is on the Fontbonne cheer team. She sounds very excited about participating in the play and being involved. “I’m most looking forward to being involved in a community.” She is not as excited for all the late nights and memorization, but “doesn’t mind much.”
Lastly, I got the opportunity to talk to one of the people who are gonna help produce the play this year, Ms. Frasca. She started acting in middle school and continued all throughout high school and college, as well as helping in summer camps. She is very excited to see how she’ll do producing the play this year, considering this is her first year actually helping with Fontbonne’s play. Ms. Frasca sounded very happy and excited to see what the play brings this year.
Good luck to the Drama Club this year!
