Fontbonne Against Cancer hosted its annual volleyball game on November 3, during which the staff slaughtered the students in an intense game. Every year, Fontbonne Against Cancer hosts a volleyball game where staff and students participate to show their support for the club, as it raises money and awareness for cancer fighters.
Staff participation was high, with new and old teachers showing their support whether by playing in the game or cheering on the sidelines. As one of the largest clubs, students also showed their support for the cause at this fundraising event.
President Anna DeSilvio organized the event alongside the executive board members, Emma Bolino, Sophia Russo, Christina Mastorakis, and Hailey Johnson, as well as Ms. McLaughlin. The club spent long hours organizing meetings to keep all members informed, ordered t-shirts, orchestrated the bake sale, and numerous signup sheets to give girls the opportunity to help out.
After talking with Ms. McLaughlin, she said, “We raised about $630 during the bake sale. This also included selling extra t-shirts we had. In addition, we raised about $250 for the partial dress-down day on 11/8.”
The charity that the funds will go to will be determined by the entirety of Fontbonne Against Cancer at their next meeting.
Overall, the event was a success with the help of student and faculty participation. The t-shirts, bake sale, and volleyball game, raised awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October by Fontbonne Against Cancer and its hard work.
