While returning to Fontbonne this new school year, students noticed several cosmetic changes, some for worse some for the better.
Fontbonne has undergone some changes to the school itself and there have been some mixed reactions from the students.
Starting with the first major and noticeable change: the new science labs in Ita Ford. Due to a large donation, Fontbonne was able to refurbish the entire second floor. The second floor and labs definitely look more modern, but it doesn't exactly fit the rest of the school.
“The second floor is more monotone in comparison to the rest of the campus,” Vasilia Koutsivitis ‘23 said. The labs gave Fontbonne a different look in addition to changing the way students learn.
Along with the second floor, the language building was repainted a “clean and sterile grey”, as Jacqueline Bocchieri ‘25 describes it. This is not to say that we should have kept the orange, but with this grey, all of the welcoming and bright memories washed away.
The stairs were also redone and given this rubber grey runner that doesn’t match the rest of the staircase. The different colors of the paints and the different tones may not seem like a big deal, but they greatly affect the vibe and environment of the school.
However, there have been some positive changes that Bonnies find favorable. The foyer was converted into a student lounge/library that had a huge improvement. It was given a long round table with many big blue plush chairs that students have learned to love.
Lauren Esposito '24 shared her opinion on the new and improved foyer,“My favorite part of the beautification is probably the foyer. It makes me feel at home because of how comfortable the chairs are and how peaceful the foyer can be. It forces me to get my work done”. The foyer is extremely helpful during resource periods and is overall more beneficial than having the FabLab there.
When coming to Fontbonne, the foyer is one of the first things you see, and it now being more welcoming and comforting will change the way visitors see Fontbonne, therefore promoting the school.
The 2022-2023 school year has brought several developments to the school, and they are believed to make a much-needed difference in Fontbonne Hall Academy for the future years to come.
