On October 6, 2023, Grades 9 to 12 walked from Fontbonne Hall to the Shore Road pier and back, to raise money for new vans. The vans would be used to transport the students for extracurricular activities, trips, and school related adventures. Each Fontbonne student was asked to raise $200 to meet the amount needed to pay for the vans.
The FAs that donated the most money to the vans were FA 1 ($4,000), FA 6 ($3,017), and FA 7 ($2,060). They will enjoy a meal with their FA & Principal Gentile, and the FA teacher will receive a $100 gift card.
Each grade was called into the gym one by one, and then was called outside for the walkathon to start. After the walkathon, the school provided students with iced tea, which included flavoring syrups and milk. Students were also able to have cake pops and cookies.
Isabella Fazio also says that the walkathon was very successful and that students enjoyed this event, “We had hoped to raise between $40,000 and $60,000 and, as of October 11th, we raised $42,272. We were very happy with the donations and the outcome of this year’s walkathon! Students had a blast walking together along the Shore Road Promenade to the 69th Street Pier and eating cake pops after their fun journey. Many students, friends, and family members came together and poured their energy and resources into this year's event. Their dedication and enthusiasm set the bar high, and their rewards are a small token of our immense appreciation.”
She continued to say that “Karen Louie will receive for $200 gift card for bringing in the most donations, Sofia Mauro will receive a $100 gift card placing in second for most donations brought in by a student, and Amanda Higgins-Sarkis will receive a $50 gift card placing in third for most donations brought in by a student…Students who raised over $350 were placed in a raffle to receive 2 tickets for the Broadway Show “& Juliet” and Emily Lampon was our winner! We also had a social media Stanley Cup giveaway and the two students who won were Gianna Inzerillo and Grace Mitchell.”
In the end, the money raised from the walkathon went to the vans, and it was a successful journey!
