Fontbonne’s Tiramisu Contest: A Huge Success!

Maria Tsevdos '26

On October 26, Fontbonne’s Global Citizenship club hosted the Second Annual Italian Heritage Month Food Competition in the cafeteria. This year's recipe? Tiramisu!

The contest was held immediately after school, when students and teachers alike flooded the cafeteria for a few bites of the dessert. Within a few minutes, all seats were taken and the contest began.

The judges were Ms. Cook, Mr. Somma, Dr. De Carvalho, school president Julie DiCapua, and Leo from Leo's Catering. All were wearing chef hats the colors of the Italian flag.

Each tiramisu was given an Italian name and each judge had a favorite. Mr. Somma went into a poetic reverie on Tiramisu “Aurora's” light texture, while Ms. Cook praised a tiramisu that had raspberry flavoring. Dr. De Carvalho on the other hand appreciated one with a heavier weight. The judges praised one specific Tiramisu served in cups, and “Vittoria” was the golden one.

Each judge had praise for it. Another one left a particular impression, that one being “Giada.” The general impression was that it was, "Chock full of alcohol, and not for the children." While everyone received generally positive remarks, others did not fare as well as their counterparts. “Simona” was too dry, while “Carla” certainly looked like she went through a lot. The contest ended pleasantly though, with “Ludovica” tasting like a pudding.

After the tasting wrapped up, out came the scoring. In a twist, the audience was told that there had been a tie. Mr. Cleary stepped in and made the final decision. In third place was Ms. Wilde's FA, second Mr O'Connor’s, and in first was Ms Nicoll's FA!

All in all, this years contest was a delicious success and the school can't wait for recipe will come next year.
