On Wednesday, February 15, Fontbonne Against Cancer and the Art Club co-sponsored a “Galentine’s Day Paint-a-Portrait” event. Students from all grade levels were invited to join in, paint on a canvas, listen to music, snack on chips, sip soda, and spend time with friends.
There was a ten dollar entry fee for painters and a five dollar entry fee for those not painting. All proceeds are being donated to an organization dedicated to breast cancer research.
“Honestly, I was on TikTok one day and saw a video of a painting party, and thought it would be great to bring to FHA as a fun event!” said Ms. DiCarlo, moderator of the Fontbonne Against Cancer Club.
Paint and decor were inspired by Valentine's Day colors including pink, red, purple, black, and white. The Art Club generously provided some paint and helpful tips for everyone.
“The Art Club was extremely helpful by providing some materials to get the event up and running. Mr. H and other members of the club were present to provide any needed help to the participants. It was fun for all!” said Ava Berardelli, vice president of the Fontbonne Against Cancer Club.
The event was a great success, as over thirty girls participated in this great cause. With that, we were able to raise over four hundred and thirty dollars in donations, and Fontbonne’s values truly shined through.
“Being an artist myself, I think the event was great! I loved how everyone came together to paint and just be around friends. It was a great experience, and I had so much fun. Everyone who came supported the club and wanted to be there. It really showed the kindness and love that the clubs give off to the rest of the school. I was so happy to see the club incorporate art into the event and everyone's paintings were amazing!” said Julie DiCapua, a member of both the Art Club and Fontbonne Against Cancer.
Members of the club mentioned that if there was anything to change about this event, it would be to advertise it even more.
“We created flyers and added it into the announcements, but we could’ve spoken to more girls and spread it around the grades so more representation from each grade would attend,” said Ava Berardelli.
Going forward, Fontbonne Against Cancer is planning more great events to help others in our community. Such events may include Relay for Life, with more information to come soon about such events.
“I’m so lucky to be the moderator of this club, as girls are always volunteering their time and money to help out in as many ways as possible!” said Ms. DiCarlo.
We would like to thank all who came and participated in this event. It may not seem like much on your own, but the impact is large when we join together to support those in need!
