Packed with smiling faces and fall festivities, on October 28th, Fontbonne Hall Academy welcomed back its Harvest Happening tradition. Every two years, all of Fontbonne’s students and faculty work hard, as well as let their creativity flow, for the entertainment of families in Bay Ridge. Various activities, treat tables, and games are set up for the whole community to participate in and enjoy. A bonding experience, indeed, not only for the families themselves but for the school too. Fontbonne’s SAC President, Victoria Bruno ‘23, spoke briefly about the event, “It was refreshing to see everyone come together and have a good time making community memories in the barn that we love dearly,” says Bruno, “these events and the love put into them are what make Fontbonne different from the other schools.”
With fun activities to partake in, swarms of children were eagerly moving from one activity to the next. Each FA came together to create a table with either drinks, sweets, or a game. However, this event had much more meaning than simply a day of excitement. In just a short three-hour period, the community blossomed in the gym, with all adults, children, Fontbonne’s faculty, and student body, coming together as a family.
Fontbonne’s very own Italian teacher, Prof. Pitti, had an extra memorable experience at the Harvest Happening. Not only attending as a teacher, but as a mother to her two sons, she had the best of both worlds Fontbonne had to offer, “I appreciated that Fontbonne made this Harvest Happening free of charge for the community, which is not what many other schools would do,” says Prof. Pitti. She is glad that this tradition is back after being on pause during the pandemic, and how it allowed for a great time with her children, “I truly enjoyed watching my students and their love for my children. The whole day turned into a great memory for me as a mother and teacher.”
Harvest Happening was a great event to initiate the season of giving that is before us, and the outcome was amazing. All of the students and faculty here at Fontbonne cannot wait to plan for the school's next one!
