Introducing Dr. Kaminski

Salome Pizon '23

Long before Dr. Kaminski (Xaverian ‘78) joined Fontbonne, he knew from a young age that he wanted to be an organ player. He was inspired by his church's organ player and began lessons with him at 15. He began to study performance at Julliard, where he got his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After he graduated, he directed the college chorus, keyboard, and taught Introduction to Music History at St. Francis. He then began to teach organ at Brooklyn College.

On Dr. Kaminski’s days off he enjoys his season passes to Rangers games and enjoys watching Jeopardy with his wife, Marianne Kaminski. He and his wife met unexpectedly.

“I met my wife Marianne in the choir I was playing at and she had just moved to Bay Ridge. I wanted her to stay so I drove her to and back from rehearsals and that was that. We will be married 34 years this March.”

Some of Dr. Kaminski’s achievements are having a terminal degree, teaching, traveling to 38 states as well as Canada and Mexico to concertize, being able to have his wife watch him play, and completing six symphonies. When asked what he would do instead of teaching music, he would’ve liked to be a sports writer or a sports journalist, preferably for the Rangers and the Giants.

When asked about why he decided to join Fontbonne, he said, “Fontbonne is Fontbonne. My daughter Becky went there. I love their reputation, and I think it’s a wonderful place to be.”
