Fontbonne’s favorite season is back – you guessed it, Sports Night! Recently, Sports Night practices have begun. Everyone here at Fontbonne is counting down the days until this very special event.
“I can’t wait for Sports Night, I'm so excited,” said Adrianna Iljazi, who is one of the sophomore dance captains.
The other captain is Julianna Glover. They were both dance captains last year and did a great job. The sophomores are positive that their dance will be amazing again this year.
The students aren’t the only ones who are thrilled about Sports Night. As Ms. Wilde said to my Global class, Sports Night is a “really great experience.”
Both the seniors and the teachers who have been at the school since before Covid-19 are especially exhilarated about sports night this year. The reason for this is that Sports Night is going to be “normal” again this year. This means that it will be more similar to the way it was before the pandemic.
Last year, Sports Night took place in the gym of Fontbonne and on the field across the street from Fontbonne. This was a very different experience from the Sports Night that our school is used to. Before Covid-19, this event took place in the gym of Saint Francis College, in Downtown Brooklyn. That is at least double the size of Fontbonne’s gym.
This year, sports night will be held at OLPH’s gym. I was told that about 700 people can fit in that gym. Last year we only had around 100 spectators. That is a big difference.
Another reason that people are so excited about this year is that tumbling is being brought back.
Jacqueline Bocchieri, who is in tumbling, explained to me how she is very glad that tumbling is coming back.
“I am on cheer so I enjoy tumbling. When I heard that tumbling was being done this year I signed up right away.”
This year is the first year that the sophomores and juniors will have a “real” Sports Night. Being that this is such a crucial Fontbonne experience, everyone is very joyous about this.
“I can’t wait to see what Sports Night is really going to be like,” said sophomore Audrey Raia, who is in dance.
Also, the freshmen are about to experience their first ever Sports Night. Freshman Lianna Wu says she was elated. “I’ve heard from everyone how fun Sports Night is. Anyone who I’ve spoken to that graduated from Fontbonne brought up Sports Night and what a crazy, lively experience it is.”
It is very clear that all of Fontbonne cannot wait for Sports Night. It will be a wonderful time for all involved, and everyone who gets the chance to watch.
