Everyone was stressed out in the weeks leading up to Sports Night 2024 – so much was different: Ms. B took over, year coordinators switched around (Ms. Duggan was even the coordinator for TWO grades), the schedule was pushed up. But it all came together on March 16th.
The Fairytale Freshmen’s props were so impressively homemade. Somehow, they did not win props, but popular opinion is that they definitely should have.
The Summer Lovin’ Sophomores had the cutest Grease-inspired costumes – Some in “Pink Ladies” and some in Sandy outfits. Their song was also really well-rehearsed.
The Joker Juniors had a very creative skit – The Joker and Harley Quinn kidnapped Bonnie and a Superhero team had to save Fontbonne.
The Superbowl Seniors had a dynamic and impressive dance, and although they tied with the juniors in the dance category, I think that the seniors outdid the other years in this category. Tumbling performance was also outstanding – with no mistakes and people gracefully flying through the air.
Some things never change about Sports Night though – each grade’s performance was tweaked in the hours before the official show; most of the parents and teachers could not hear anything that was going on in the skit; props were being misplaced; and skit members were memorizing their lines the day of.
The Joker Juniors won with a final score of 295.3, and the Superbowl Seniors secured second place with 294.2. The margin was only 1.1 points! Freshmen came in third place and sophomores in fourth.
I don’t think the tradition of Sports Night will ever die – and it shouldn’t. Each class grows closer together after every win and loss, practice and performance, effort and defeat. Sports Night is an integral part of Fontbonne life. It evolves and changes each year, but the spirit of the day is always the same: Fontbonne Forever.
