Juniors Reminisce on Ring Day

Juli-Anne Sarji '24

On April 21st, the Juniors experienced Ring Day, one of the most special events at Fontbonne. Ring Day is essentially a day in which the juniors receive their school rings that symbolize that we are all one big family and are ready to take up the role as seniors next year.

On Ring Day, the Juniors watch a video on all the memories they have experienced at Fontbonne during their freshman, sophomore, and junior years.

Anna Mancino ‘24, exclaimed how much Ring Day meant to her when she stated, “Ring Day was amazing and the day was full of making memories with my friends that will last me a lifetime.”

The day started off with FA followed by a school Mass at 8:20 am. The juniors lined up and processed down the aisle in the gym. At the beginning of Mass Junior President Julie DiCapua ‘24 and Junior Representative Laura Meoli ‘24 welcomed everyone to Ring Day and made speeches.

Julie DiCapua ‘24 spoke about how much fun we had as a whole year on Ring Day when she stated, “I thought Ring Day went great. I love how the class is always able to have fun no matter where we are. My favorite part was when we all sang ‘Count on Me’ together."

Julie expressed, "The singing and laughing at that moment goes into all the rest from over the years which feels really special. While it always takes a lot of effort into planning these events, I enjoyed it and appreciate all the help from Ms. Nicoll and Ms. Sosa.”

A lunch tray, a chromebook, and fairy wings were presented as gifts, symbolizing freshman year. These gifts symbolized the time when many people were remote, people ate lunch outside, and we had Sports Night online.

The gifts symbolizing sophomore year were our “Sophomores in Space” Sports Night jersey and a bag of Hershey chocolate. Our Sports Night jersey symbolized our first Sports Night that was not online, and the bag of Hershey chocolate symbolized our sophomore trip to Hershey Park on May 26, 2022.

The gifts presented for our junior year were a masquerade mask and our “James Bond Juniors” mural. The masquerade mask symbolized our Junior Dinner Dance and the “James Bond Juniors” mural symbolized our first normal Sports Night and us getting second place.

After the gifts were presented, Mass began and the school rings were blessed by Msgr. Romano. When Mass finished, the juniors sang their Ring Day song, “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars, and their Ring Day video created by Efstasia Karahalios ‘24 was played displaying pictures of memories from freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

The juniors were then dismissed at 10 am and returned to school at 6:30 pm for the ring ceremony. They processed into the gym at 7:00 pm. Julie DiCapua ‘24 welcomed the parents, Haley Ballard ‘24 led everyone in the pledge of allegiance, and we listened to a speech by alumna Rosemarie Romeo ‘85.

Then, the students were called up one by one to receive their rings and gifts. The gifts were really cute bracelets with an elephant charm on it, symbolizing that we are all Bonnies.

We heard an inspiring speech from Ms. Crean, the Assistant Principal, about how much we have grown up as students and individuals both in and out of Fontbonne. We re watched our Ring Day video full of memories created by Efstasia Karahalios ‘24. Lastly, we faced our parents and sang our Ring Day song, “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars, and we also sang our school song with the former alumnae.

Overall, as a junior who attended Ring Day, I can say that it was truly such a special day full of reminiscing on all the memories we have made as a whole year and as one big family.

Such a special day couldn’t have happened without Ms. Sosa, Ms. Nicoll, Mr. Scheidt, Dr. Herron, Ms. Crean, Julie DiCapua, Laura Meoli, Ms. Jean-Louis, our maintenance staff and all the students and parents.
