New Cafeteria Drinks Will Make You Happier and Healthier

Samantha Mitchell '25

New drinks with health benefits have been introduced to the cafeteria here at Fontbonne. This has been something that many students, faculty, and staff have been wanting for a while.

As Giada Amendolara ‘25 explained, “I was glad to see that healthy options are being introduced because having a Coke-a-Cola or a Snapple every day is way too much sugar.” Giada is the sophomore representative. Giada, along with sophomore president Caitrina Mulally, have been trying to push healthier options since freshman year. A lot of the sophomore class is very excited about these new changes.

“I'm glad to see that we are finally making a change in options in the cafeteria,” said sophomore Toni-Marie Fichter. She further explained that she gets tired of the same unhealthy items that are currently available.

“Having too much sugar makes me feel sick and gross,” explained sophomore Francesca Surace. She said that having large amounts of sugar makes her break out and her stomach hurt. This is why she’s glad we have new drinks offered. She said that she tried Lemon Perfect. Francesca described that this drink has zero sugar and that she felt relieved after drinking it, most likely because of the antioxidants that it contains.

When asked why these new drinks are being sold, Gina, who works in the cafeteria, said that Paulo Acquista wanted to “Try something new.”

The new drinks that are being offered are Culture Pop Soda, Lemon Perfect, Montauk, Poppi, Tampico, Rain, Mash and Super Coffee. These are all healthy alternatives to other beverages previously offered.

Sophomore Sofia Mark explained that she feels so much more energetic and ready to start her day after she had a Tampico, which is a natural fruit juice.

Culture Pop soda is “soda you can feel good about.” It has many different flavors and only 40 calories. It is vegan and Kosher. It also is certified non-GMO and has no stevia. Furthermore, this drink is made from organic fruit juice, contains real herbs and spices as well as live probiotics. According to Gina, who works in the cafeteria, Culture Pop soda is probably the most popular out of the new drinks.

Montauk is an all-natural iced tea with nine different flavors. It is made with no artificial flavors or preservatives. It is sweetened with pure sugar cane, and these drinks start at just five calories. “The new iced tea was so good”, said Carly Intrabartarlo ‘25, referring to Montauk Iced tea.

Tampico is a fruit juice. When asked which of the new drinks they liked the most, a lot of students said that it was Tampico. Caitrina Mullally ‘25 stated, “This is my new favorite drink that is served at Fontbonne. And on top of tasting so good, drinking it feels good.”

Both the students and staff are enthusiastic about these new drinks. Hopefully, these new beverages are the beginning of many new healthy options in our cafeteria.
